Early 2011 Online Marketing Trends. Part 2

Early 2011 Online Marketing Trends. Part 2

We discussed in our previous post a handful of online marketing trends we believe will grow in early 2011. Here are some more

Content will grow ever more important. Everything on the Web is filled with content: websites, Facebook, YouTube, etc. To be successful in online and social media marketing in the coming years will require that sites, or posts, or Twitter/Facebook updates give readers valuable, informative, even fun things to read, watch and/or hear. Marketers will work hard to entice people to click and read (click and stick around). If you’re not already blogging, if you’re not already on Facebook, you need to start now, or you’ll definitely be left behind in 2011.

Businesses will realize the importance of making it as easy as possible for their target market to purchase from them, both online and off (multi-channel marketing). At least a whopping 70 percent of consumers search for and research products online and then head offline to purchase them. So you’ll want to make it as easy as possible for your potential clients and customers to buy your product or service in whatever way is easiest for them.

Watch those cookies! Online marketers love and need cookies in order to target and track customers’ behavior. But the customers are starting to get restless, as more and more concerns regarding online privacy pop up. Marketing is only going to become more social and as more people make purchases and interact online, you can bet that privacy issues will be of big concern this year.

Still, even as consumers voice unease regarding online privacy, they’re still going to demand a very personal online shopping experience. The tools available to online marketers to personalize customers’ experience will multiply this year. For example, tools exist today to create a page based entirely on a customer’s previous online experience with you. A regular customer will be able to come to your website and see a page with information gathered from all of his or her previous visits. You also can expect 2011 will see that personalized marketing will grow beyond websites to other online channels such as smartphones and social media.

Online marketing will continue to evolve as 2011 moves into 2012 and beyond.
